Travel sometimes isn’t an option, but that doesn’t mean culture cannot be absorbed through different methods. The British Museum 

The first public national museum in the world, The British Museum is found in the Bloomsbury area of London. Dedicated to human history, art and culture, The British Museum online collection spans over two million years. Hosting objects such as the Rosetta Stone and the Parthenon sculptures, the online museum tours go on a global adventure spanning the four corners of the globe. Musée d’Orsay, Paris

The museum is located right in the heart of Paris, on the banks of the Seine, and directly opposite the famed Tuileries Gardens. Its history stems from being the former Orsay railway station, specifically built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. MoMA The Museum of Modern Art, New York, United States

Devoted to the works of modern art, the MoMa or the Museum of Modern Art is known for its rich and ecstatic collection that gives an overview of the contemporary art scene. Using varied and innovative online museum exhibits, the MoMa opened its doors in 1929 to the general public. From an initial gift of eight prints and one drawing, the MoMa now boasts over 150,000 paintings, sculptures, and drawings, prints, photographs, and other design objects. Their current online museum collections feature Sophie Taeuber-Arp, a central figure in the avant-garde movement of the first half of the twentieth century.

The Van Gogh Museum

Found in a post-modern building in the area of Museum Square of Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum is dedicated to one of the foremost artists to have lived, Vincent Van Gogh. Housing the largest collection of Van Gogh’s work globally, the permanent collection has an outstanding 200 paintings, 500 drawings, and more than 750 letters. It also presents exhibitions on various subjects around 19th-century art history. The two museum collections online that the Van Gogh Museum have chosen to feature are insights into the artist’s love life and the books he enjoyed reading. The Uffizi Gallery

Designed by Giorgio Vasari in 1560 for the infamous Cosimo de’ Medici to house the Granducal Magistrates of Tuscany. Since then, the Uffizi Gallery has come to exhibit some of Italy’s finest dynastic collections of sculptures, artwork, and artifacts. The stunning space includes the ancient Florentine church of San Pier Scheraggio in its eastern wing, among other architectural highlights such as the facade of the church of Santa Felicita that reaches the Boboli Gardens. The Uffizi Gallery has some of the most striking online museum exhibitions with features like Piero di Cosimo’s ,”Perseus Freeing Andromeda”; the creative process behind Federico Barocci’s drawings; The Santa Trinita Maestà;  and drawings by Amico Aspertini and other Bolognese artists. Google Arts and Culture also has a map that can be downloaded onto android and iOs, meaning that all forms of technology can be utilised to learn and grow. If you’re unable to travel and stuck indoors for a few days, this is the opportunity to learn more about the world we live in and the incredible offerings that we have.
