So, Cupid was spotted in Belfast shooting a new rom-com for Sky Studios, The Lovers. But does it truly revolve around matters of the heart? The show has hit the UK like a storm, with audiences singing its praises. The IMDb ratings are a clear testament to its success.

Is it Another Corny Love Story?

You should watch the show and decide for yourself, but here’s the deal: an Englishman (in a relationship) meets an Irish woman (just out of a failed marriage), and they agree to have an affair without falling in love. If you watched Friends With Benefits, you would know where this is going. Although that might sound cliché, the show has more depths for you to discover. 

The Lovers tells the story of Janet (Roisin Gallagher), a grumpy supermarket worker from Belfast who couldn’t care less about pretty much anything, including her own existence. And then there’s Seamus (Johnny Flynn), a charmingly narcissistic political broadcaster with a seemingly flawless life in London and a celebrity girlfriend.

The series is full of witty dialogue, sharp observations about modern relationships, and beautiful cinematography. This is a sizzling, side-splitting, intense love story between two individuals who seem like oil and water – but might just be a match made in heaven.
