The Mac Belfast – The Centre of Art and Theatre
The MAC Belfast is a great location in the Cathedral Quarter that focuses on art, shows, plays and acts as a theatre. Great for adults and kids with a very unusual building design worth checking out.
The Metropolitan Arts Centre in Belfast or as it is known as MAC is an award-winning arts venue. This tends to explain the reason why it comes on the list of places that one should visit in Belfast.
The MAC opened in 2012 and since its opening, it has welcomed thousands of tourists. People are attracted to the different programmes of visual art, theatre, dance, family workshops offered here.
In 2015, the Metropolitan Arts Centre of Belfast was shortlisted for the Museum of the Year Prize. Which says a lot about the success of this place and explains how it manages to attract lots of visitors to shows and art displays.
The Permanent Artwork
One of the things highlighted in the MAC Belfast is the one permanent artwork that is found there known as “The Permanent Present” by the Irish artist Mark Garry. This piece of art consists of 400 copper strands in a spectrum of colours.
Reaching from a high window down to the first floor. It is commissioned by the MAC and the Thomas Devlin Fund. Which is a charity set in remembrance of the murdered teenager Thomas Devlin.
According to Mark Garry, the artist of this artwork, he created it because he wanted to bring a piece of art that is hopeful and positive to the people of Belfast.
Opening Times and More
To make sure that your visit the MAC is done the right way, you should know more about the information related to its opening hours. The Metropolitan Arts Centre is open 7 days a week In total it opens 363 days of the year. From 10am to 6pm and Sometimes later during the performance nights.
There’s also a nice coffee shop that is found inside The MAC Belfast. Where you could sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and a nice treat. Being in the middle of the Cathedral Quarter, it is important to say that there are lots of things to be checked there as well that would be close to the MAC. Such as all the great bars and restaurants located in that area where you could grab a meal before a show.
