From the moment you walk in the door of Gillies Bar and Grill at Galgorm Resort and Spa, you can tell that it is going to be a very good experience. The recently refurbished restaurant and bar are warm and inviting, with a gorgeous roaring fire lit to welcome you in from the cold.
The décor is tasteful, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, appealing to guests of all ages and preferences. The seating is a mixture of booths and tables with some looking out onto the stables area of the hotel.
The staff are attentive, friendly and very helpful. They ensure that you have everything you need and are happy to go out of their way for special requests or specific dietary requirements.
The new menu on offer is varied and fun ranging from classic dishes, Asian style creations and grill selection. They even gave a gluten-free menu and a vegetarian and vegan menu so definitely plenty of choices to suit all tastes! All ingredients are fresh and locally sourced – which we are a big fan of!!!
To give you a little flavour of the Gillies menu the dishes we sampled:
Bang Bang Chicken – delicious crispy chicken, a good portion with a lovely selection of crispy vegetables. (This can also be ordered as a main course)
Salt ‘n’ Chilli Chicken – wonderful flavour served with a mini Asian salad. A little spicier than the Ban Bang chicken (medium)
Homemade Beef Burger – really well presented with onion rings, bacon and cheese. Succulent burger, cooked to perfection and served with a side of your choice. We choose chunky chips and they were great.
BBQ Ribs – cooked beautifully, could nearly eat with a knife and fork they were so tender and falling from the bone. A good-sized portion (couldn’t finish it) served with BBQ sauce and corn on the cob. Would not hesitate to order again.
Sticky Toffee Pudding – This was to die for, moist and smothered in a sticky butterscotch sauce accompanied by creamy honeycomb ice cream – would return for this dessert alone!
The bar is exceptionally well stocked with a fantastic range of wine, beers and spirits. The bartenders are knowledgeable and make really good cocktails.
Gillies is great if you are looking for entertainment as well – they have live bands or singers on most nights of the week so you are really going for the full night out experience rather than just a meal. Look out for offers as well they do steak nights, 2 for 1 cocktails on certain evenings, special lunch menus and spa menus – something for everyone.
Now the big question would we recommend Gillies Bar and Grill?– the answer is most definitely – fabulous food, great atmosphere, lovely staff, entertainment – overall a really good place for a well-cooked, quality meal as well as a great night out!
