What is Plaza de España?
Plaza de Espana is a square in Madrid, Spain. It has been the centre of the city of Madrid for over 200 years. The plaza was designed and built by architect Francisco de Villanueva in 1738. The Plaza de España contains two famous buildings in Madrid: the Royal Palace (Palacio Real) and the Royal Opera House (Real Teatro).
It is a popular place to visit. as it’s also the site of many important historical moments. In fact, during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939, General Francisco Franco used the plaza as his headquarters.
The shopping mall located in the square was opened in 1968 and has over 1,000 stores and restaurants. The name Plaza de España comes from the fact that it’s located on Plaza Mayor (the largest plaza in Madrid).
There are a number of important buildings around Plaza de Espana including the Royal Palace of La Moncloa, Palacio Real de Oriente (the palace of the Spanish monarchs), and Palacio Real del Pardo (the palace that houses the presidential offices).
Where is Madrid?
Madrid is the capital of Spain and the country’s largest city. It’s home to one of Europe’s most famous soccer teams, Real Madrid C.F., which plays in El Bernabeu stadium. The team has won an astounding 32 European titles since it was founded in 1902, making it the most decorated club in European football history.
In Madrid, they have a saying that goes: ‘The best places in the world are either new or old’. This is because the city has been continuously inhabited since the Neolithic era and has many historical sites to explore.
A good place for history buffs would be Plaza Mayor, which has been used as a meeting point for citizens throughout history. It was where King Alfonso XIII was welcomed during his visit from Belgium in 1910 when he first took up residence in Spain.
For foodies, there are many restaurants and bars around Plaza Mayor, especially El Rastro (the covered market) which serves traditional Spanish cuisine like paella while La Latina offers more modern dishes like pasta and pizza. There’s also Bodega del Mediodía (a wine bar), Las Letras Libres bookstore and Café de Oriente café with its tasty pastries and sandwiches. For those who enjoy shopping, there are several boutiques along Calle Castellana that sell vintage clothes and accessories at affordable prices.
Madrid has been called the most beautiful city in Europe. But it’s also one of the most visited cities in the world, with an estimated 20 million visitors each year.
Spain is a beautiful country. It offers a variety of activities and sights to keep you busy for the entire vacation. From world-class culture, to top-notch beaches, great food, and breathtaking scenery, there’s something in Spain for everyone.
The Spanish lifestyle is full of outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and swimming. If you’re interested in doing some Dutch-style windsurfing or kiteboarding, most areas have those types of activities. But the big attraction for many tourists here is a culture that doesn’t allow them to be bored—a culture that has been described as “halfway between a hospital and a madhouse.”
Spain is a great place to visit year-round. In the winter months, you will find many ski resorts in Spain. During the summer months, there are plenty of beaches and mountains to hike at. The best time to visit Spain is during spring when it’s warm but not too hot.
