Enjoying the Kilmacurragh National Botanic Gardens, County Wicklow

Throughout County Wicklow and Ireland, there are many gardens and parks. One of the most beautiful Gardens is the Kilmacurragh National Botanic Gardens located near the villages of Kilmacurragh, Rathdrum and Barndarrig in Mid-East Wicklow.

The gardens occupy a large estate that was developed by Thomas Acton during the 19th century. Around this time many plants from around the world were being brought to Ireland for the first time.

Compared to the Dublin National Botanic Gardens called Glasnevin, many of the plants brought to Ireland were able to strive due to the conditions within Kilmacurragh and the soil.

Kilmacurragh National Botanic Gardens Opening Times

The Gardens are open 364 days a year. That means it is only closed one day a year, which is Christmas day. Below are the times throughout the year.

• November – Mid-February (Winter): 9am – 4:40pm
• Mid-February (Summer): 9am – 6pm

The grounds are free to explore all year round. It is the perfect place for a walk, jog or run. It is also a keen place for family outings such as lunches or picnics and photographers.
