Burj Khalifa tower

Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the world’s most famous and expensive building. The 163-story structure, also known as Burj Dubai, stands at 828.8 m (2,717 ft) and is the tallest tower in the world.

Burj Khalifa’s Design Concept

With its unusual design and location atop a man-made island in the middle of one of the world’s leading cities, visiting Burj Khalifa is a spectacular and enjoyable experience.

The building’s design is based on eight main crystal shapes—the pinnacle is an ellipse—and incorporates 466 windows for unparalleled interior ventilation and air circulation. The interior of the building features a nine-story atrium with twinned spherical shells that echo the design of the building’s exterior.

The building seems to stretch into the sky like a massive umbrella over neighbouring buildings and townships.

The design incorporates an observation deck at its apex where visitors can see different parts of the city below them. Another point of interest at Burj Khalifa is its base— visitors can walk through this underground structure where they can see a model city modelled after Dubai’s main townships.

Experience

Visiting Burj Khalifa is a popular activity for tourists visiting Dubai from all over the world. Apart from being an impressive architectural marvel, it also symbolises Dubai and Arab culture.

Topping off their visit to Burj Khalifa with a trip to Downtown’s top spot would allow tourists to view both iconic structures simultaneously.

It would be entertaining to visit during sunset when lights from adjacent areas make it appear as if a candle flame illuminated Downtown atop an otherworldly cake!

Activities

If you want to enjoy your time in Burj Khalifa, Plenty of activities will help you to get the right experience. For starters, you can go to the top of the building and get a breathtaking view of the city. Also, you can go to the observation deck and learn about the history of this iconic structure. Then, head to many restaurants and cafes to enjoy your meal while appreciating the panoramic view. Finally, for shoppers, check shops that sell souvenirs but don’t expect to find reasonable prices.

Visiting Burj Khalifa provides insight into Arab culture and technology while presenting a unique perspective on local geography and urban development projects throughout Dubai. With its panoramic view of surrounding areas— including Abu Dhabi — visiting Burj Khalifa is an educational, entertaining, and eye-opening experience!

Quick tips when visiting Burj Khalifa

1- Please note that ticket prices vary depending on several factors:

  • The standard ticket is roughly £36 for adults and £28 for children (till 12 years)

This ticket will get you access to 124 level, but it’s unavailable during sunset. That means you can get in the tower only from 9 am to 3:30 pm and then from 6:30 pm until closing.

From 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, this ticket will get higher to about £54 for adults and £33 for children.

  • Booking your ticket online will guarantee you will skip all long queues, but you will charge £75 and get the 125th level straight.
  • If you’re willing to enjoy a happy meal at Armani Hotel (a 3-course set brunch) while appreciating one of the best panoramic views in the world, you need to pay £72. It’s a brilliant deal.
  • Need more adventure, then you can enjoy an outdoor dining experience (a 3-course set menu) on the Rooftop while making a toast at the tallest building in the world. But the ticket will be £66.
  • If you want to get higher while having a hand on some complimentary snacks, purchase an £84 ticket and climb up to Level 148. Please note this price is available from 7:00 pm until closing; after that, you have to pay £108! (OH, insane! Yes, I know!)
  • If you want access to a VIP lounge where you can get the highest point of Burj Khalifa, be ready to pay £638! And it opens every day after 4:00 pm.

Are there any discounts on the tickets?

Of course, there are. However, you need to check the official website before paying for any package or discounted tickets from online vendors to make sure that you make a great deal. These packages may include a skip-the-line feature and promo offers for purchasing souvenirs or visiting other attractions.

Make your time to search profoundly for any combined tickets that would save a few pounds.

2- There is no wrong time to head up to the tower. For me, the sunset is better, but the night is also fantastic when you observe the city glittering from each corner.

3- The tour around the tower might take more than 1 hour, and if you don’t pay for a skip-the-line feature, you would need extra time waiting in the long queue.

4- Even if you purchase an online ticket, come here at least 30 minutes before your time slot.

5- There is no seating at the top, so wear something comfortable to help you move around with ease, as it would be great to spend the rest of the day in downtown snapping, visiting Dubai Mall, or even hanging out.

The Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Fountain is one of the world’s largest dancing fountains. It is situated in the Burj Khalifa lake in Downtown Dubai. The fountain shoots water up to 500 feet into the air and is accompanied by music and lights. Visitors can watch the fountain show from the lake promenade or one of the many nearby buildings.

The Dubai Fountain’s Design Concept

The Dubai Fountain is designed to be a musical fountain, and it features over 6,000 lights and 25 water jets that shoot water up to 150 feet in the air.

Experience

The Dubai Fountain show runs every half hour from 6 pm to 11 pm on weekdays and from 6 pm to 12:00 am on weekends. Visitors can also take a boat ride on the lake to see the fountain.

The best time to visit the Dubai Fountain is at night when it is illuminated with lights and creates a truly magical experience. However, to maximise your experience, consider a bunch of things:

  1. Considering the high temperatures and humidity, wearing comfortable clothing is a must.
  2. Be sure to arrive early to get a good spot.
  3. Don’t forget your camera!

Activities

Get ready to partake in a wide variety of pursuits. Activities include:

  • Eating at the café located near the fountain.
  • Watching a show.
  • Playing games such as ping pong or football on the viewing platform.

The viewing platform has tables and chairs for visitors to enjoy their time at the fountain while they watch it function. Many classy eateries are scattered around the attraction opening early in the morning so visitors can have breakfast before watching the fountain operate that day. There are also souvenir shops near the viewing platform where visitors can buy gifts for their friends and family back home.

So why don’t you make time to explore this area and take memorable shots?

Quick tips when visiting The Dubai Fountain

1- The best time to visit the Dubai Fountain to enjoy exotic shows is before the sunset to guarantee a good position near the lakeside. The shows are run every day from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm. Then it starts again at 6:00 pm, and a new musical water-dancing performance starts every half an hour.

2- You can reach the fountain via metro or the bus. On weekends, the avenue became packed to the fullest. Don’t bother showing up here if you end up being late. Plan to come here another day; you will neither be able to watch the show nor capture an excellent shot to surprise your follower.

3- If you’re looking for more thrilling adventures, check out the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. It’s just located next to the fountain. There is no shortage of what you can do, ranging from Shark Diving, Scuba Diving or Cage snorkelling.

4- For a better view and slightly less crowded, go to the Lower Ground Floor at the end of Fashion Avenue. But it would help if you reached the place early as well. However, the best of all is to take a cruise ride in a traditional small wooden boat called abra. It sails 15 minutes before each show and lasts for 30 minutes. It’s an unforgettable experience and a romantic setting unlike anything else.

5- If you get tired from walking tours, many Dubai Mall restaurants are scratted around where you can have a seat and enjoy the scenic view.

Dubai Museum

To this day, the Dubai Museum is one of the city’s most visited landmarks. Any journey to the UAE should begin here, as it is a must-see for any city traveller and a great jumping-off place for seeing the rest of the country. In addition, this museum does a great job of summing up Dubai’s past, present, and future.

Dubai Museum’s Concept

The museum traces the origins and development of Dubai from its humble beginnings as a fishing village to the modern-day metropolis it is today.

It has a collection of over 100,000 artefacts that tell the story of Dubai from prehistory to the present day. The exhibits include archaeological finds from ancient civilisations such as Sumerians, Babylonians and Persians. Other documents date back to the 19th century when Dubai was ruled by Sheikh Maktoum bin Hasher Al Maktoum (the first ruler).

Experience

The museum displays various exhibits, including traditional Arabian clothes and artefacts from ancient civilisations that once inhabited this region. In addition, many interactive exhibits are installed to help you learn about different aspects of life in Dubai and the UAE.

The Dubai Museum is known for its extraordinary collection of rare coins from all around the globe. Some of these coins date back as far as 200 BC. In addition, plenty of photographs document Dubai’s evolution from a little fishing hamlet to one of the world’s leading financial hubs, and this timeline is prominently featured throughout the exhibit.

Activities

Catch a glimpse of many eras throughout Arab and the United Emirates.

Natural history, archaeology, Islamic art and history, and more are all on display at this Dubai museum. In addition, you may find out about the history and culture of the area’s original inhabitants (the Bedouins). Some collections focus on important archaeological sites, including the shipwreck at Umm Al-Nar (which dates back over 2,000 years) and the ancient city of Tell Abraq (an ancient settlement).

The museum also hosts several galleries dedicated to Islamic art, including a gallery featuring Islamic calligraphy from around the world and a gallery showcasing modern art from around the Gulf Region.

Quick tips when visiting The Dubai Museum

1- The nearest metro station is Al Fahidi station, but you have to talk for around 9 minutes. If the weather isn’t on your side, use a taxi to prevent being scorched by the heat. Or take a bus and take off at Al Ghubaiba station.

2- It is important to arrive early. The museum opens at 8:30 am, and it can get quite crowded later in the day.

3- Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking involved —and, of course, comfortable and light clothes even in winter. You’re in the Middle East when the temperature might hit 40°C.

4- Take advantage of the free audio guide as it provides a lot of information about the exhibits. Also, take your time to show the interaction videos and other unique illustrations. It’s a lovely historical tour to learn more about the UAE’s history and culture.

5- If you have time, visit the nearby Al Fahidi Fort, which houses the museum. Or you can dive deeper and head to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre, a unique cultural hub teeming with many pleasant activities, and then you can walk in the nearby local area to know more about the Arab lifestyle.

As the saying goes, “Dubai never sleeps,” and it has everything to offer. From the world’s tallest buildings to luxurious hotels and resorts, from shopping malls to restaurants, you will see something that deserves your attention wherever you go.

  • Hilton Dubai Jumeirah (£217 per night)

Budget-conscious vacationers who value socialising with other travellers and experiencing local culture might consider staying in a hostel. They are typically dormitory style, with bunk beds and shared bathrooms.

Our favourite picks:

  • Green Sky Apartment (£40 per night)
  • California Hostel Dubai Beach (£52 per night)
  • Bombay Backpackers DXB (£24 per night)

Here are awesome tips on how to find the best hotel in Dubai:

Compare Prices – Before booking any hotel in Dubai, it is always wise to compare prices online. This way, you will get an idea of which hotel offers the best deal for your budget.

Check Out Reviews – When booking a hotel room in Dubai, check out TripAdvisor or Booking reviews from previous guests who have stayed at these hotels before.

This way, you will get an idea of their experience while staying at this hotel so that you are most likely to make a well-informed choice when booking one yourself!

Check Out Amenities – Another vital thing to keep in mind while booking a hotel room is to check out amenities and facilities such as a playground for your kids, a decent view from your space, and what is included in your package.

Be Flexible and Check Different Dates: Sometimes, you would find unmissable deals if you made extra efforts to check out different dates to spot the best price. In addition, booking websites can offer special discounts in certain seasons, so relax and don’t confirm your reservation unless you make sure you have found what you want.

Tips to Explore Dubai Within Your Budget

There is an assumption that you are rich if you travel a lot. But, no, it’s not! The thing is that you just know how to travel a lot. And the difference between them is enormous! Regardless of where you go, you’ll find both good and bad, but you can enjoy its pros and find a way to come up with its cons. For example, one of Dubai’s cons is that it’s expensive compared to many tourist destinations.

We have a few tips on how you can explore Dubai within your budget.

  • Book your flight tickets early and get them at discounted prices. Negatively use the internet till you find the best price for your trip and use searching websites such as Skyscanner, Kayak, and WeGo to find the best deals.
  • Fly into a nearby airport like Abu Dhabi or Sharjah instead of flying directly into Dubai. This less-known ticket can save you hundreds of dollars on airfare.
  • Book your ticket on cheaper carriers such as FlyDubai, Indigo or Spicejet. But first, check out the popular airlines Emirates and Etihad. Sometimes you can find a list of discounts on specific dates. Or you can take advantage of the Emirates boarding pass that offers huge discounts on some dining places, hidden beaches, and spas; just show your card before you get in.
  • Take a stroll across Dubai, but remember that this is only a viable option if you’re visiting the city in the winter. Otherwise, you’ll receive sunstroke right away.
  • Avoid taking taxis everywhere; instead, use public transportation or walk when possible.
  • Take advantage of the Dubai Metro cards that will allow you to travel more areas around the city for only £1.45. Tourists usually buy the Red Ticket or the Silver Card depending on how often you’d use the train and how long they’d stay in Dubai. The Silver will get you access to more trips, valid for 5 years.
  • Metro is run through tourist attractions only. So if you go to a place that a Metro station doesn’t serve, we suggest getting as close as possible by the train and then taking a taxi.
  • Please remember that Dubai is not a small city, and the distances between different locations are enormous. At the same time, don’t rely on buses. They are not convenient at all, except for line number 8. However, it will give you access to exciting points such as Kite Beach, Souk Madinat, and Burj Al-Arab. In fact, it’s a city built to be discovered exclusively by car. That takes us to a very important second point.
  • If you come to the UAE with your friends or family, a car is the best way to cut all the hassle of moving around a city with extremely high humidity levels. The fuel is cheap, and you will be guaranteed to explore off-the-beaten-track places that don’t cost much and day trips to unusual attractions.
  • Take a free walking tour and get to know the city like a local. Hit the city’s most well-known souks, malls, and historical locations like the Coffee Museum and Camel Museum. You can also take free yoga sessions at Friends Of Yoga and watch a movie under the stars at the Pyramids Rooftop Complex.
  • If you are unwilling to pay for the Burj Khalifa ticket or think it’s pretty expensive, you have another option with the same experience, Dubai Frame, for £12. You will need to book in advance to skip lines; it will cost you an extra £3, but it’s better than getting stuck in long queues and losing this precious moment to admire the view from this fantastic structure.
  • It is possible to visit Downtown Dubai, the Burj Khalifa, and the Dubai Mall all in one day without paying for transportation. That is just one example of the city’s numerous nearby attractions.
  • Be selective when you’re out searching for pleasures. For example, you can go to Bur Dubai, where you will find the authentic Arab spirit and have a boat ride for less than £.4
  • For super savers, you can go to Jumeirah Beach Residence to escape the heat, enjoy high-speed internet in the lobby, and just order a drink or some cheap snacks. It’s incredible to experience exploring one of Dubai’s most prestigious residential areas.
  • Go around cultural areas in Dubai for free tours, like the Gold Souk in Deria. It’s a profound experience; you can capture many instagrammable shots wherever you go.
  • If you’re willing to bring some souvenirs before you go, don’t head to malls; they are expensive without something unique that will tell others you were in a futuristic Arab city. Instead, go to local areas like the Spicy Souk, where you can purchase some brilliant exotic spices with delightful scents for less than £5. That’s how you can please your friends with unique gifts.
  • Know exactly where you should be based and where you choose to visit to cut through the noise of spending much money on transportation around the city.
  • Stay at one of the many hotels near the metro stations or, even better, at the metro stations themselves.
  • If you want to explore Dubai relatively affordably, you can stay in one of two of the cheapest neighbourhoods there; Deria and Mankhool. But please note that the metro doesn’t run there, and you will need to depend on a taxi which is slightly cheap (with less than £11.50 to get to the district from the airport)
  • Stay in a less expensive hotel or apartment rather than a 5-star resort. There are plenty of options for accommodations that won’t break the bank.
  • If you come here in the high season, Airbnb and Agoda will help you to find the cheapest accommodations around the city. Set your budget, check the lodging, review the location, and confirm the reservation. They are great websites for anyone who wants to travel to Dubai within a tight budget.
  • Eat at local restaurants rather than upscale establishments. There is no shortage of delicious food to be found in Dubai, no matter what your budget is.
  • Check the Groupon.ae website that will help you know about all activities, restaurants, hotels, and all recent deals for lower prices.
  • For events and some free activities that could be available on special occasions, we recommend checking Time Out Dubai and What’s On Dubai. It will let you know all possible festivals for the lowest prices, like watching camel racing at Dubai Camel Racing Club every Friday at 6:00 pm for free but only from November to March.
  • Also, we recommend downloading The Entertainer app; it’s essential for all expats and tourists planning to stay here for at least 4 days. The website offers different packages to get access to multiple restaurants for dinner, breakfast, and brunches. Also, you will enjoy exclusive access to bars, venues, and attractions. However, it wouldn’t be worth it if you were in Dubai alone.
  • For local tours around the city, you should not book with anyone who came on your way. Instead, we suggest checking deals on GetYourGuide, and if you find something that meets your budget, secure your seat by booking ahead.
  • You may have a good meal for a low price at Dubai Mall, which is also home to a number of shops and attractions. You can check out a spacious array of restaurants to pick your favourite meal. Also, you don’t need to pay for activities like window shopping or watching the incredible fountain. Or even go ice skating for £17.
  • Forget about eating at hotels or restaurants, especially if you’re going to order any alcoholic beverages. They will charge you triple just because you choose your drink along with your meal. Alternatively, you can go to any bar and order a burger with your beer, which will cost you around £21.
  • On Fridays, many restaurants offer discounts on their meals as it’s a special day for Muslims. Enjoy your brunches from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, but you can primarily get double deals if you head to Double Deckers (Al Murooj Rotana, Downtown), Pizza Express (Movenpick, JLT)
  • Instead of going to a lush restaurant for the evening, do something unique and less costly, like a group tour to the desert. It wouldn’t be cheap, but it’s worth trying. You are not on an Arabian safari every day.
  • But if you’re yearning to spend a special day without breaking the bank, you can check out JBR and downtown restaurants. They offer high-quality food with a pleasant view but please check if you need to make a reservation before you go, especially in the peak season or on weekends. And fret not; your bill will be around £13 if you order the popular, affordable dishes there.
  • Dubai is a city embracing different nationalists from around the world. That means you can find international cuisines wherever you turn, and they can offer less pricey meals compared to other big brands. So don’t hesitate to have a hand on Asian, Indian, and even Egyptian food in the UAE.
  • If you opt for rentals or a small studio with a kitchen, consider cooking at home, especially if you stay here for a couple of weeks. Also, many groceries are within walking distance no matter where you are, like LULUs, Carrefour and others. That will help you cut costs and save extra expenses for more joyful adventures.
  • However, Dubai is one of the friendliest communities in the world, not just in the Arab world; they still impose high taxes on alcohol. That’s because the city wants to maintain its conservative prospect. But you also have a chance to enjoy a less pricey glass of beer by using the right tool, which is Guzzle. It’s a superb app to get offers on drinks in some restaurants. Also, you can invest in a premium subscription for more discounts based on how many days you are willing to spend here.
  • Look into the details of the happy hour. Sunday through Tuesday, from 5 pm to 8 pm, most bars offer a significant discount. Your drink is 50% off because you deserve it.
  • If you’re a girl, you can go to China Grill (Westin Hotel) on Tuesday to enjoy your free drinks all night. Actually, many bars have this outstanding service called Ladies Night. Don’t hesitate to reach any bars asking for your lucky days; bring your sisters or friends, and let’s have a blast for FREE!
  • In general, everyone in Dubai needs a licence to buy alcohol, but tourists have exclusive access to get what they want for 30 days. After that, just head to any bar holding your passport with a Dubai entry stamp, and you will be served your desired drink. Otherwise, if you plan to stay here for more than this duration, you can purchase and stock up on any alcoholic beverages you want from the airport since it’s free-duty without licences or any troubles.
  • If you skip the airport, you still have a chance to enjoy your drink on a budget; go to a shop called Barracuda in the Emirate called Ajman. But you can’t get there without a car.
  • Be aware of your spending. When you’re out and about, it’s easy to spend more money than you planned, especially dining out in the hotspot will cost you a hefty sum.

Pro tip: Dubai is opening new attractions almost every year; no wonder it’s one of the fastest-growing cities in the entire world. So, before you go, double-check what you can add to your itinerary to enjoy yourself to the fullest.

The Bottom line of how much Dubi will cost you:

For solo travellers:

Accommodations: be ready to pay at least £23 per night.

Food: £27 daily, including beers

Transportation: £15 daily

Attractions and activities: £30 daily
